Teaching and Learning
To leverage campus resources more effectively to achieve the campus academic plan, Executive Vice Chancellor Sukhatme reorganized faculty development services within the division of Academic Affairs. These changes went into effect on January 1, 2008.
The Consortium for Learning and Scholarship is a strategic partnership among three centers: the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), the Center for Research and Learning (CRL), and the Center for Service and Learning (CSL). Individually, each center provides strategic leadership and support in its particular domain of expertise. Linked through the Consortium for Learning and Scholarship, the centers work to improve teaching, research, service and learning, in the following areas:
- experiential learning (e.g., undergraduate research, service learning, internships, international and cross-cultural experiences),
- faculty work that draws on and/or addresses urban issues in teaching, research, and service,
- activities that promote and foster an inclusive campus climate.
In tandem with other key campus units, the Consortium seeks to increase the coordinated and intentional use of experiential learning at IUPUI as well as further integrate these enhanced efforts into the campus’s established partnerships with the Indianapolis community. Increased use of these methods by IUPUI faculty and staff will motivate students and give them the skills to become life-long learners, engaged citizens, and competent professionals who will contribute to building a healthy and prosperous future for the state of Indiana.
The three centers will contribute to the above goals by pursuing their individual areas of expertise—teaching and learning, undergraduate research, and service learning--and by collaborating to provide a meaningful, integrated set of experiential learning opportunities to each IUPUI student.
